At only 10 miles long by one-mile wide, this is the baby of the family. Little Cayman is the ultimate option for sun-drenched solitude and untouched tropical scenery, with its population of 170 residents easily outnumbered by the endangered Little Cayman iguanas and rare birds. In fact, the road signs here even point out that “Iguanas have the right of way”.

THINGS TO DO

From the moment your Cayman Airways Express Twin Otter flight lands on the rustic short runway at the quaint Edward Bodden Airfield in Little Cayman, your vacation has begun. Once you’ve settled in to your accommodations, hop on a bike or rent a car or scooter to easily circumnavigate the whole island and find your own deserted stretch of sugar-white sand. Enjoy a picnic at Point O’ Sand beach, stop at the Little Cayman Museum, and spend some time at the National Trust’s Booby Pond Nature Reserve – home to the largest breeding colony of Red-Footed Boobies in the Western Hemisphere.

For an even more secluded experience, take a kayak over to Owen Island - an uninhabited island within the reef, about 200 yards from shore, with pristine beaches and excellent snorkeling.

Divers must not miss the opportunity to explore world-famous Bloody Bay Wall, while fishing enthusiasts can try their hand above the waves.

All of this being said, the main reason people head to Little Cayman is to relax and really get away from it all, so don’t feel guilty if all you want to do is lie back and listen to the waves lapping the shore.

WHERE TO STAY

A relaxed, friendly atmosphere and all-inclusive hospitality keep on drawing guests back to Pirates Point. The resort has free bikes for exploring the island’s nature trails, or hammocks and Jacuzzis if chilling out is the only thing on your to-do list.

Southern Cross Club has 14 brightly-colored bungalows located right on the beach and offers yoga classes to those seeking more spiritual pursuits.

Paradise Villas is a 100-percent oceanfront property that boasts 12 Cayman-style cottages within 50 feet of the water, including comforts such as spacious porches and kitchenettes.

Then there’s the popular Little Cayman Beach Resort, home to, among other things, the Nature Spa with its full range of skin and body treatments, as well as a full restaurant and pool bar. Little Cayman also offers several condominium options, like The Club with eight luxury villas on the beach, as well as guest houses and villas for every budget.

EATS AND DRINKS

All of the restaurants and bars on Little Cayman get great reviews on TripAdvisor, with most of them associated with resorts, such as Pirates Point Dining Room and Beach Nuts Good Time Bar. There’s also Sunset Bar & Restaurant, and of course, everyone has to have a meal at the Hungry Iguana at least once, known for its conch chowder and lion fish fingers.
