Though no more than 40 minutes from Grand Cayman, the two sister islands each offer completely unique experiences, distinctly different to their bigger, more developed relative. From the rugged charms of the Brac to barefoot seclusion on Little Cayman, it’s no wonder so many are tempted to hop across for a weekend (or more) of relaxation.

Cayman Brac

Named for the dramatic bluff that rises 140ft above sea level, “the Brac”, as it’s affectionately known, boasts having the highest point in all three of the Cayman Islands.

THINGS TO DO

A major contrast to Grand Cayman’s flat terrain, the bluff is a fascinating diversion if you’re looking for an eco-tourism adventure. Book a free nature tour with expert local guide “Keno” through www.naturecayman.com and hike along some of the island’s 35 marked trails, and explore the bluff’s many mysterious caves. You can also rent a car and go caving on your own, with roadside signs making it easy to find the most popular caves like Great Cave, Bat Cave, Skull Cave, and Rebecca’s Cave. Hiking up to Peter’s Cave in the quaint Spot Bay district is a must-do, especially for the scenic panoramic views. While you’re in Spot Bay, visit the iconic Heritage House, stop by Nim Things for some traditional hand-made souveneirs, and at the end of the road follow the path to Long Beach where you’ll see one of the best oceanside views of the Bluff from ground level, including Little Cayman Brac.

While exploring the island, stop at the Cayman Brac Museum in the capital of Stake Bay for a historic journey back in time. And no Cayman Brac trip is complete without visiting the island’s famous Light House, with sprawling ocean and cliff views from the highest point in the Cayman Islands.

There are just as many amazing sights to be seen off the Brac’s shores too. With more fifty dive sites to choose from, you’ll also find the only diveable Russian warship in the Western Hemisphere, the MV Capt. Keith Tibbetts, which was sunk in 1996 as a dive site.
